Stereo Painting

SCULPTING WITH PIXELS AND PAINT

The images below are Stereoscopic Paintings - They will become three dimensional if you look at them just the right way - It is called FREE-VIEWING

See complet FREE-VIEW set at the bottom of this journal.

How does one FREE-VIEW?

Stare at the painting and then cross your eyes so you see three images. Focus on the middle one. Relax your eyes a bit - be patient - you will lock it in like a tractor beam. Once you get it the first time it will becomes much easier. Move your head side to side and the piece will actually turn toward you.

THIS CAN BE UNCOMFORTABLE FOR SOME - ATTEMPT AT OWN RISK:)

HERE IS A POST FROM soad2K - He is a vision therapist.

He writes: "Everyone can actually do it, some people do have Convergence Insufficiency. But if they do, then they can use their finger or a pointer like a pencil to help achieve the effect"

If they sit approx. 18" from their monitor and then hold their finger 5" away from their face, positioning it between the two painted images focusing on the tip, and then slowly look beyond the pencil, the should see the third image. They can move the finger back or forward find perfect registration - the trick is being able to transition from finger to image. With a bit of practice, anyone has the ability to achieve this.

"If people say they see 4, they are crossing their eyes too much".

Thanks soad2K!!!

Click on the first thumbnail - It's the easiest one the get - You can try the smaller image first as your eyes don't have to be crossed too much. If you get it, move on to the larger version - it's a little more difficult as your eyes will have to strain a bit more, but it's worth it.

... Have fun!

In addition to the "FREE-VIEW" paintings, I have included the original paintings that were intended to be viewed with stereoscopic glasses. If you enjoyed the effects from FREE-VIEWING, you will be blown away at the effects when glasses are used.

If you are curious to see the effects the way I intented them to be seen, you can
purchase a fantastic device called the LOREO Lite 3D Viewer for $1.70. They are made in Hong Kong and will ship anywhere in the world.

----

I dabbled with the concept of creating stereo paintings for several years before I created my first piece.

I had never heard of anyone attempting this. I thought I was the first. I did a google search and there was no mention of what I had planned. I later found out that Dali, before he died, had a passion for it... gotta love him!

But...

he didn't have access to the tools at my disposal - Tee Hee Hee:)

How do I do it???

I mounted a pair of mirrored goggles in front of my screen and looked through them as I work in Photoshop. The source images come from a pair of photos taken at the same time with two cameras.

The "Lincoln" piece was my first stereo idea long before I even attempted the feat. I wanted to see my favorite President in living color as if he was right there infront of me - the lap dance was my gift to the stoic icon. I didn't execute the idea until I mastered the skill.

My first actual attempt was the "Self Portrait". The effect... well, sucked. My second piece "Mirror Mask" was a different story. "The Soul" also turned out nice (make sure you move your head side to side on this one - watch the guitar).

I will be uploading new stereo picts over the next few weeks!

Cheers,

Daniel

phew...
I couldn't do it...:(
are you sure this can be seen even on monitor?
:iconartismo69:
Make sure you are looking at the FREE-VIEW version. Try Yellowfish. Once the center image starts to become clear, open your eyes really wide and it will come in crystal clear.

Everybody's eyes are different - there are people who simply can't do it.

Cheers,

Daniel

I know. Somepeople have sensitive eyes and can really feel the strain. The trick is to relax the muscles. Once the two inages converge than open your eyes real wide. The small ones take a limited amount of eye-crossing and is less straining.

Hope you get it!
